Earth Day Celebration – Free Fun & Food for Kids and Adults

If you live in Connecticut, or the Northeast for that matter, you may have heard of the now famous Earth Day Celebration at New Morning Natural Market in Woodbury, CT which takes place every April at the store’s grounds. Thousands of people from around New England, New York and New Jersey flock to the store, rain or shine, to sample vendors’ products and walk the booths that have information about everything from climate change to composting to natural medecine and a petting zoo. There are raffles for many different gift baskets too. It’s a great, great event, lots of fun for adults and kids.
We vendors who attend give out thousands of samples to the public who get to taste lots of delicious natural and organic foods and treats. This year, in addition to my normal samples, I am going to make cut out cookies for people to see and taste. I want people to know that my cookie dough exists and that it’s sold at New Morning so if they like the cookies they know that they have a choice to buy them premade or make their own.
This year marks the 16th Earth Day Celebration at New Morning. It will take place on April 24 starting at 11:00 and goes until 3:00 or 4:00 in the afternoon. I hope you will come and if you do I hope you will stop by and sample our cookies!

    Tom’s Shoes – Entrepreneurship & Philanthropy

I saw a great segment on Tom’s Shoes this morning on CBS Sunday Morning. Blake Mycoskie started the company in 2006 with a mission to give away a pair of shoes to needy children around the world with every pair of shoes sold. While I’m sure that the bottom line is important to achieve this goal and be able to give away shoes, I think that the premise to do good and not just make money for money’s sake is huge and I applaud and admire him and his company.

    Random Acts of Kindness

Earlier this week I lost my credit card at the pump of a busy gas station. A couple of hours later when I realized it was gone and I had ripped apart my purse and car I called the gas station and it turns out someone found it and handed it in. That is a Random Act of Kindness.
A few weeks ago my car died on I95, a major highway in Connecticut, began to smoke and burst into flames. A man stopped and ran out to pull me away from the car. Another man stopped with a fire extinguisher but before he could get to the car it burst into flames. The fireman were literally awe-some. They got there within 5 minutes of my call and they put the flames out within minutes. They were caring and helpful. The off duty state trooper who stopped to help me and stayed with me for an hour in the cold and with his son waiting in the car made sure that my car was towed and that I could get a rental car before the rental agency closed. The rental agency waited for me and then gave me an unbelieveable deal. Many, many Random Acts of Kindnesses here.
    And many angels.
I think that there are far more Random Acts of Kindness going on in the world that we encounter daily, weekly. We don’t hear about them in the news but they ARE happening around us all of the time.
I want to start a Random Act of Kindness Revolution! Send me your comments and stories and let’s report on good things and start a kindness revolution together!
